CAVO MODEM

For all of you who want to connect the cradle cable (or the HotSync cable) to a modem: here's the pinout for the adaptor needed. The adaptor contains a null-modem adaptor, a gender change, and a 25-to-9 pin reduction. I put a DB-25 male and a DE-9 male in a 25-to-9 adaptor shell.

The pin numbering is the same as on the connectors. The Pilot does not use DCD, so the DCD wires are left out to not harm the modem. Same for Ri. The DSR(modem)/DTR(Pilot) could be left out as well, but is helpful when using the adaptor for connecting other devices, e. g. two modems. (see also Vic's page). You'll get the shell and the connectors for around 5 USD (or 7,50 DEM) e. g. at Radio Shack. You don't need any more material except some wire and a soldering iron.

Working time: 30 minutes.

The adaptor works fine. I use it with modems from 2.4k to 33.6k and several Pilot apps, e. g. TG Postman and Palmscape. In case you experience difficulties with the modem not dialling or not connecting, make sure you set the right modem speed on the pilot.
